Port Elizabeth: ANC Eastern Cape leader Andile Lungisa was sentenced to two years in prison by the Port Elizabeth Regional Court on Wednesday.
Lungisa was sentenced to an effective two years imprisonment for assault with the intent to do grievous body harm.
Lungisa pleaded not guilty to the charges even though there is a video footage of him smashing a glass jug into the head of the former mayoral committee Rano Kyser in October 2016.
Magistrate Morne Cannon found that Lungisa had shown no remorse for his actions.
He was sentenced to three years in prison, with one year suspended for a five year period, Lungisa will now serve two years in jail as a result.
In the video, filmed by DA councilor Renaldo Gouws and shown to the court, Kayser can be seen falling backward and landing on the floor, Lungisa Is then seeing fleeing the scene.
