Johannesburg: The African National Congress (ANC)’s National Working Committee (NWC) is set to convey a special meeting amid calls for North West premier Supra Mahumapelo to step down from office.
The protest erupted in North West with residents in the area calling for Mahumapelo to vacate office after being implicated in allegations of corruption linked with members of the controversial Gupta Family.
Last week the ANC NWC held a meeting in efforts to find a solution on the matter.
The ruling party has no option but to recall Hahumaeplo as members of the ANC in the North West Province threatens to vote with the opposition parties in the upcoming general elections if the party fails to take actions against the premier.
ANC Spokesperson Pule Mabe says a firm decision will be implemented to resolve the issue.
While political analyst Professor Steven Friedman argues that there is a high prospect that the ANC has fear of losing power in the 2019 general elections.
